2011 RCS Employer Recognition Luncheon

Restoration Gardens was named Exemplary Employer of the Year at the 10th Annual Sheboygan County Employer Recognition Luncheon held Thurs., Oct. 6, at The American Club in Kohler, to honor the hundreds of area employers who support vocational skills training and provide job opportunities for people with disabilities.

The awards luncheon is a collaborative effort sponsored by RCS Employment Services, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and Hearthstone of Wisconsin, a self-help and advocacy organization for people with disabilities and their families.

"Restoration Gardens owner Craig Harms and his team join a distinguished group of local businesses who recognize the skills, work ethic, and determination of people whose abilities too often remain an afterthought when it comes to employment," said Craig McFadden, RCS Employment Services, in a press release. "Helping people of all abilities find meaningful work benefits everyone and strengthens our communities."

Each year, more than 200 Sheboygan County employers, community leaders, service providers, employees, and families attend the recognition luncheon to appreciate the ongoing support for providing job opportunities for people of all abilities. One employer among hundreds in the county is recognized each year for demonstrating a long-term effort to investing in employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Harms co-founded Restoration Gardens in 2003 and Restoration Farms in 2009 to establish a hands-on education and agricultural experience for high school students and a way to teach valuable training and life skills. Harms is also a member of the Business Education Partnership Committee of the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce.

"When we make things better for others we are really only making things better for ourselves, and we get to hire great employees thanks to RCS Empowers," Harms said.

Other Sheboygan County outstanding employers in 2011 include Aurora Medical Center, Grafton; Bread & Bean Eatery; Faye's Pizza; Georgia Ave. Body Shop; Gibbsville Implement; Highland House Restaurant; Kwik Trip No. 361; Legend Larry's; Main Street Subs and Salad (Subway Store #40569) ; Richardson's Furniture Emporium; Taco Bell North & South Sheboygan; and Weimann's Sports Center.
