RCS Connects

What is RCS Connects?

If we cannot be together physically we can still join one another and be connected through RCS Connects!  RCS Connects is a group service offered Monday-Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. and going until 3:00 p.m. using a secure online platform called Webex.  It offers the flexibility for you to choose which days you would like to join each week, provided you don’t exceed the number of days agreed upon with your funder.  RCS Connects provides the flexibility for you to join whenever it works for you and for as long or as little as you would like each day. 

Fun With Numbers

Day: Monday
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Don’t let numbers intimidate you! Brush up on your math skills while having fun with friends. In this class we will learn practical life skills such as calendar skills, money skills and telling time. We will also play games and do projects that incorporate math and numbers. Examples include Yahtzee and other dice games, card games, Sudoku and other number puzzles, paint by numbers and more! 

Learnology

Day: Monday
Time: 10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

Let’s learn everything we can about anything we want!  Topic ideas are chosen by the group.  The possibilities are endless!  Birds, animals, outer space…any topics we choose!

The World Around Us

Day: Monday
Time: 12:45 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.

We live during a time of diverse cultures, traditions, and ways of living. Discover different parts of the globe and witness how individuals handle similar problems, situations, and triumphs as well as how they may do things differently than we do. Learn how we impact the world and discover different ways of connecting with our Earth and environment.

Better You and Me

Day: Monday
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Let’s work on improving ourselves and becoming better people. We will do this by focusing on being positive, learning good manners and etiquette, figuring out how to overcome obstacles and persevere, maintain a positive attitude, interact with others respectfully, and provide value to ourselves and others.

Animals

Day: Tuesday
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Animals are fascinating creatures that look and behave in unique ways. Learn about different animals and their habitats, diets and behaviors. Use virtual zoo tours, live cameras, photographs, videos and games to learn more about your favorite animals and discover animals you may not even know exist. ​

Music

Day: Tuesday
Time: 10:45 a.m. -11:45 a.m.

Join us as we explore the wonderful world of music. Together we will learn about different instruments, our favorite types of music, and a variety of musicians. We will listen to well-known music and instruments along with some fun unusual ones too!

Independent Living

Day: Tuesday
Time: 12:45 p.m.-1:45 p.m.

Who doesn’t want to do things for themselves? In this class we will discuss topics that will help us grow and become more successful in a variety of areas including: self-advocacy, home safety, self-care, health and nutrition, accessing resources, accommodation awareness, communication, and many more.

US Cities

Day: Tuesday
Time: 2:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m.

Take an armchair visit as we explore our nation’s towns, cities, and villages. Each week we will explore a different location; learning about the history, culture, food, and some attractions. We will also discuss things like the weather, climate, and sports for that location. Webcams and other interactive tools let us experience amazing cities as if we were actually there!

Health Matters

Day: Wednesday
Time: 9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m.

Let’s work on some strategies to help us improve our fitness and increase our knowledge about healthy lifestyles by participating in an evidence-based exercise program that includes exercise, nutrition, and health education.

Explore the World

Day: Wednesday
Time: 10:45 a.m. -11:45 a.m.

Let’s travel the world together! We have the whole wide world available to us online and were going to travel as much of it as we can virtually! Different countries…Different cultures… Mountains…Oceans…Anywhere we want! Group participants will pick travel locations.  

Employment

Day: Wednesday
Time: 12:45 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.

There are many things necessary to get successful employment. We will go over some skills that are needed to achieve and maintain employment such as dressing properly, good attendance, punctuality, transportation options, and many others. We will also discuss different job opportunities in our community and brush up on our interview skills, so when that right job comes along, we are ready.

Super Science

Day: Wednesday
Time: 2 p.m. -3 p.m.

Science covers so many things: the stars and planets, inventions, food, archeology, natural phenomena, animals…you get the idea! Join us as we continue to experiment, discover, and see how items are created, how and why they happen, as well as how science is a part of our everyday lives. It is in jobs, weather, us, and some rather peculiar things too!

News & Current Events

Stay up to date on what’s happening in our world today by discovering current events from all around the world and right here in Sheboygan County. Together we’ll check out a wide variety of news events along with any COVID friendly events happening in our area.  

Cooking

Day: Thursday
Time: 12:45 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.

There are millions of recipes out there! Let’s focus on some that you can make on your own. Learn about the ingredients we are using as well as substitutes for original foods. We will work on following recipes and becoming familiar with the tools we need and will use as we go through the step-by-step process. Discovering where and how to buy the ingredients for our recipes is another important part that we will study as we cook or bake things each week.

Kitchen and Food Knowledge

Day: Thursday
Time: 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Most foods have health benefits. Let’s learn what those are as well as where our food comes from. Let’s also work on knowing our way around the kitchen, including our awareness of food and kitchen safety. From new food products and how people cook around the globe to grocery shopping and preparation, everything in this class is about food!

Fun and Games

Day: Friday
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Playing games can improve brain function, stimulate our minds, and help develop and improve social skills such as communication and cooperation. In this class, we will play a variety of games together. Each week will focus on particular themes of interest to the participants, and the games will help participants to learn and reflect on those topics. Some games we will play include Pictionary, Scattergories, Trivia, Jeopardy, and many more.

Dance

Day: Friday
Time: 10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

Dancing is a great way to exercise our bodies and help us learn about different cultures. We will learn the details of different varieties of dance and their characteristics such as costumes/fashions, diets, music, special training, and more.

Focus on Community

Day: Friday
Time: 12:45 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.

What makes a community? Join us as we explore this and learn about all the communities in which we live, work, and play. There are events, festivals, and functions taking place in Sheboygan County and Wisconsin that we will discover. We will also learn about rules, laws, and guidelines that are important for us to know about and follow as we increase our awareness of the resources available to us in our communities. We will focus on things like transportation options, health and medical resources, schools, and other volunteer opportunities that available right in our backyards!

Connections

Day: Friday
Time: 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

We make connections. In this class we will discuss the importance of healthy relationships with friends, family, coworkers, acquaintances, and significant others. Our focus will be on building better social and communication skills and work through things like navigating levels of trust, social media and safety, conflict resolution, safe and respectful dating, building and maintaining healthy friendships, and being part of a team. Whether it is at home, school, work, or out with friends, it is important that we make strong and healthy connections!
